Dean Giles Bio

Vocals, Bass
Born
: 11/14/1968

Dean first came to know music at a very young age. At the age of 2, while experimenting with a dog's tail and a light socket, Dean learned that by manipulating certain objects he could create new and interesting sounds. Dean soon learned that, when using other animals, harmonies would come in to play. He found this all very exciting.

After losing his pet turtle in a bizarre blender accident, Dean decided to move his musical stylings to less animated objects. For his 10th birthday his mother bought him an oversized mariachi's bass, strung with catgut (RIP Mr. Whiskers) and his life was changed forever.

At the age of 18 Dean joined a traveling mariachi band (Los Gringos del Fuego) and did a tour of all the local-area Chevy's restaurants. Due to his flare on the bass, Dean found fame on the "Tequila Trail". He was known for his table-top antics and extended bass solos (some lasting up to 3 minutes). However, a tragedy during the 2nd verse of "Juan Tanamera" cut his mariachi career short. While doing the "Mexican Hat Dance" Dean slipped on a guacamole-coated tortilla chip, fell backwards and hit his head on a nearby table. He fell from consciousness and was in a coma for the next 16 years.

Never expecting Dean to awake from his coma, Los Gringos del Fuego went on without him. They hired a new bass player and began a new statewide tour. They soon became famous for being the only mariachi band to play at Chinese restaurants. However, tragedy befell the group again when the pilot flying them to their next gig choked on a guacamole-coated tortilla chip, thus causing them to crash into the West Texas desert.

The members of Ludwig's Van, being die-hard fans after hearing of the tragedy of Los Gringos and in desperate need of a new bass player themselves, spent all of their resources ($138.24) in an attempt to awaken Dean from his "slumber". When this didn't work, Ron recalled hearing the story of the dog and the light socket. At that point he took Dean's finger and jammed it in the nearby wall outlet. The spark aroused Dean's lifeless body.

In gratitude to the band, Dean agreed to be their bass player and has forged strong bonds with every member...except Ron.
